The Stationery Process

Start here:

The first step to creating a completely personalized suite is to reach out and inquire!

I begin every stationery project with a meeting- virtual or in person- so I can learn about your event. I’ll tell you all about my work, my style, and what working with an artist is like. This is a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the process. I’ll share my contract, which includes pricing and package options. I offer an hourly rate (suitable for smaller/boutique weddings), as well as stationery packages suitable for larger or more involved events. We build your contract together- no one event is the same.

After contract signing, my work begins! You can send me as much or as little inspiration as you’d like. Some of my clients have a clear vision they want me to bring to life, while others have me create the vision from scratch. There is no right or wrong way to start.

Every stationery suite begins with hand painted watercolor motifs. I’ll create motifs based on what you tell me (or don’t tell me). I often create motifs based off the elements you want in your wedding. I encourage my clients to think about themes they’d like to carry throughout the event. These themes can be anything from your event color scheme to a particular shell, wine bottle, floral arrangement, etc. I love working with clients who are excited to share what they love with their guests!

Once I’ve created an array of motifs you like, I match the illustrations to your text. I’ll send you templates of text for each piece of stationery, or you can send me your preferred wording. I will create multiple drafts to show you how different fonts and text sets interact with the illustrations.

When you decide on a final design, I provide you with samples and paper recommendations that hold the watercolor pigments the best. I create proofs (single draft copies) of each stationery piece so you can get a sense of how your entire suite will look put together. Once this is finalized, I print the suite in your desired quantity.

While your suite gets printed, I’ll build your envelopes and your liners. In these final steps of the stationery process, we discuss embellishing touches- wax seals, ribbons, vellum, suite jackets, etc.

And just like that, your stationery suite is ready.

Frequently asked questions:

  • How long does it take for you to create a custom suite?

Small suites may take 2-3 weeks, while larger suites may take 1-3 months to create. Please let me know well in advance if you would like custom stationery to avoid rush charges.

  • What is a stationery “suite”?

A stationery suite is comprised of each piece of paper you plan to put in an envelope. A typical suite may include (but it not limited to) a Formal Invitation, RSVP card, Details card, Liner, Vellum, in a beautifully printed envelope. Every suite is different!

  • Can you do event products besides stationery?

YES! I love working on my clients menus, seating cards, table cards, match boxes, event programs, thank you cards, cocktail napkins, signature drink cards, bridal party commissions, etc. The world is our oyster for what we can create together!

  • Can you do one-off illustrations and send me digital pdfs/jpgs/pngs?

NO. I maintain the rights to all my illustrations and designs, which means I do not send one-off designs nor pdfs of my digitized work for you to work with. I CAN send you the original art once your suite is completed. If we decided to contract together, I create your entire suite.

  • How much does custom wedding stationery cost?

I detail the cost of custom stationery in my contract. I offer an hourly rate, as well as package pricing. You have the option to pick what pricing plan works the best for your needs. Once we build your contract, I will provide an estimate (if hourly) or the total cost (if you chose a package option). Custom wedding suites can range from $800 - $12,000, depending on the contents of each suite and needs of each wedding. I offer plans for clients to pay by invoice, or by a monthly plan. I encourage you to book a meeting with me to learn more.
